Lytton Gardens, a community of over 500 seniors, has a successful intergenerational volunteer program that coordinates activities for volunteers from 41 schools and 66 community groups. The program enjoys an excellent reputation in the community and is funded 100% by grants and individual donations. This is an opportunity to take the program to the next level.
Reporting to the VP of Health Care Skilled Nursing Facility, the Director of the Volunteer Program will be responsible for administering the program and managing all volunteer activities. Key responsibilities include program development, volunteer recruitment and retention, reporting and evaluation.
Responsibilities
Program Development
• Ensure that the program continues to meet the needs of both the seniors and the volunteer community.
• Develop a strategy for the long term success of the program
Program Management
• Establish program goals and manage the budget
• Implement policies and procedures to ensure smooth coordination of activities
• Manage an events calendar that can be accessed by internal staff and volunteers
• Liaison with the directors of resident services and activities staff
• Train staff on how to work optimally with volunteers
• Supervise a full-time assistant
Volunteer Coordination
• Recruit volunteers based on residents’ needs
• Provide site tours and oversee the orientation process for volunteers of all ages
• Schedule events, activities and visits
• Develop a volunteer recognition program
System Management
• Oversee the development and maintenance of a comprehensive tracking database
• Ensure that the system capture the volunteer and resident information needed for schedule coordination, activities tracking and reporting
• Prepare detailed reports and statistics
Community Outreach
• Develop partnerships with selected schools, community groups and individuals
• Attend school and community service fairs to recruit new volunteers and represent Lytton at community meetings
Evaluation
• Develop and implement a methodology and tools for evaluating the program components
Communication with Prospective Funders and Grant Reporting
• Collaborate with fund development on proposals and reports
• Participate in fundraising, donor cultivation and solicitations as needed
• Provide quarterly updates on program accomplishments
• Updating volunteer department section of newsletter
Schedule and Work Location
This is a full-time, benefited position. Schedule may be flexible with some evening and weekend hours.
Required Experience
• 5 years experience managing a large volunteer program
• Knowledge of the mid-Peninsula community
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated passion for the mission of Lytton Gardens
• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Excellent written communication skills
• Ability to multi-task
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Experience working with multi-cultural teams
• Demonstrated leadership and excellent presentation skills
• Experience using MS Office, databases and the internet
• Excellent interpersonal skills
Education
• 4 year college degree or equivalent
