The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is based on the French memoir by
journalist Jean-Dominique Bauby. Bauby suffered a massive stroke that
paralyzed his entire body, except for his left eye. Using only his left eye
to blink out his memoir, Bauby was able to write about his experience
which became 2007's Oscar-nominated film.
