Lytton employees and residents alike, gathered over 140 pairs of shoes to aid the Haitian earthquake relief efforts.
The recent tragedy in Haiti shocked all of us and rippled around the world igniting an outpouring of grief and compassion for the Haitian people. Many people voiced their sympathy and concern. The generous people of Lytton Gardens went a step further. They jumped in with both feet! Actually a whole lot of "both feet".
When the word went out that the Haitians needed help, the folks at Lytton responded immediately with something very practical, but also beautifully symbolic. They decided to give shoes. Shoes of all kinds and sizes, both brand new and a tad used. All the shoes that could help!
"I saw so much news on the television, and saw that everyone was barefoot. I wanted to do something to help, so when the shoe drive was announced, I thought it would be an easy way for me to contribute. I felt honored that I could do something so small, but found it very rewarding." -Emma, Assisted Living Resident
The employees and residents alike came together and seemingly in the blink of an eye, they had gathered 140+ pairs of shoes – brand new running shoes, walking shoes, strong and comfortable shoes, large shoes, small shoes, crocs and tennis shoes – all shoes that will help the Haitians get back on their feet. There were probably fairy princess shoes in there too.
The shoes were given to the Soles4Souls program (www.soles4souls.org) , a non-profit organization dedicated to making sure these generous gifts get directly to the needy Haitian people.
Lytton also collected money/checks to send to the Red Cross relief efforts.
